CheshireNetword members teach in a range of centres across the county. Administratively, Cheshire is divided into boroughs and whilst not all of the boroughs have a Further Education sector college within their boundary, all the Cheshire Colleges have programmes of vocational and leisure language classes for adults at centres throughout the county. There are courses at all levels in French, German, Italian, and Spanish and many colleges have programmes offering Greek, Portuguese, Russian and Welsh. Beyond the Cheshire border but still within easy access in the North West are colleges offering Japanese and Arabic, in addition to the European modern languages. Strictly Halton and Warrington are no longer part of Cheshire, having been designated Unitary Authorities, but for many years before the drawing of the new boundaries, language tutors throughout the county worked together to develop new and innovative language programmes. which set the standard for adult language teaching throughout Great Britain. That spirit of collaboration continues today. Netword, organised by the Centre for Information on Language Teaching
and Research is a national network of tutors from regional groups such
as ours in Cheshire. |
